For almost twenty years, they have worked together to empower women to reach their full potential as philanthropists to effect change for the better in their communities, state, America and the world.

  1. How can women change the world through their philanthropy?
  2. What are the differences in women’s versus men’s giving that can increase philanthropy overall?
  3. What kind of world do women want and how can they achieve it?

They are activists, philanthropists, volunteers, researchers, speakers, non-profit founders, donor advisors, development officers and authors.

Sondra and Martha’s objective has always been:

To create a women’s philanthropy movement in America that will increase philanthropy by women for all philanthropic endeavors forwarding the good of the world.

They revolutionized fundraising development and donor education by helping women find their “Philanthropic Passion” through discovering their “Values, Vision and Voice” (copyright).

In extensive interviews and focus groups throughout the U.S. for their first book, Reinventing Fundraising: Realizing the Potential of Women’s Giving, Sondra and Martha discovered and defined the characteristics of women’s philanthropy with their 6 C’s of women’s giving—change, create, commit, connect, collaborate and celebrate (copyright). The 6 C characteristics have been widely embraced by women, institutions,  organizations, fundraisers and financial advisors.

They also developed the five-stage journey of a woman to become a philanthropist: Motivation (finding her passion); Knowledge (two-fold—about her own finances and projects in the non-profit sector to carry out her passion); Action (involvement with the organization); Leadership (becoming a philanthropic leader); and Legacy (passing her values on to the next generation).

These and results from their other studies about women and philanthropy have appeared in most leading national newspapers and magazines.
